What Makes a Healthy Morning Routine?

On with our healthy morning routine interview series! Today comes from Ann (aka @deliciouslyhealthyfit). Let’s go!

Q: Do you have a morning routine? Can you share it?

Depends on my schedule – I’m a student and classes sometimes start early, sometimes late, some days are even off. However, I always have half a liter water after waking up, and I love to enjoy a long and calm breakfast. If it’s early, I have something prepared like overnight oats, but still take at least 15 minutes to eat it. When I have more time, I like to cook a hearty, savoury breakfast. While eating, I read blogs.

Q: Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Neither? I don’t get up super early but I also don’t stay awake for very long. 9 am is the latest for me to get up, and I usually go to bed at 11 or 12. I aim for 8 hours of sleep (I’m awake a lot at night so count that in, I often don’t sleep well)

Q: What does a typical work day look like?

Again, it all depends of my class schedule. Cozy breakfast per usual, then I study or have classes. As I’m living close to the campus, I usually go home for my lunch break and cook something, or I have something leftover. Then more classes or more studying, and in the evening I work out (at home).

Q: Do you have any tips for staying productive and focussed throughout the day?

Not letting yourself get distracted all the time is key for productivity in my opinion. I turn my phone on mute and put it away (under my blanket or something). I do short breaks after an hour or so, with a few stretches and let some air in. I like to finish one task before starting something new – multitasking doesn’t work well for me!

Q: Breakfast of champions?

Omelette stuffed with cheese, with veggies or a salad on the side is my all time favourite breakfast!

Q:Do you keep any kind of diary/journal?

I keep a food diary so to say – post all my meals on instagram! During exam prep I like to have a list with all topics, and tick them once I’m through.
