5 Healthy Snacks To Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

I’ve long since given up the attempt to eat 3 square meals in a day and not snack in between.

It seems like an arbitrary number anyway-why 3 meals anyway? for some people, 6 smaller meals works for them, and I knew others who get by perfectly on one great big meal.

Anyway, I usually git in at least two snacks a day -and for whatever reason, I go with my sweet tooth. Again, no point in denying it’s there, but… It doesn’t mean I need to reach for a Mars bar.

5 Healthy Snacks To Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

All of these recent snack addictions are pretty low, if not zero on the added sugar front, and nearly all have a good balance of protein and healthy fats to keep your appetite at bay till meal time (and one  is just good for the soul- very much needed too!)

Without further jibber jabber, here are my current favourite choices of snacks to satisy my sweet tooth:

1. Fulfil Protein Bars

So I sound these the other day when l was standing in line at… PRIMARK. Whaaa?

(For readers outside the UK, think of your most budget clothes and home wares shop)

Dubious, I checked over the ingredients list and macros and… I was sold. 75p  I think? Similar stats to a Quest bar and really, VERY tasty.

Primark, you continue to shock and impress me.

2. Kind Bars

KIND bars

More familiar to readers across the pond: KIND bars have been gathering publicity in the UK at last, and I’m seeing them pop up in more places.

Basically a heady mix of nuts and other crack-like ingredients (all very natural) I have yet to meet a flavour I didn’t like.

But if you put a gun to my head and asked me to pick a FAVOURITE… let’s go with maple glazed pecan and sea salt. Love.

3. Mug cakes

I think… I’ve finally mastered the eggless protein mug cake.

The concept is simple: one scoop whey protein (I used this one from MaxiNutrition – really easy to mix and has a delicate flavour, not overly sweet) plus 1/2 a teaspoon of baking powder. Add some water or milk to make it into a pancake-batter-like Consistency, microwave for 30 seconds and… Boom.

The trick was, for me, adding extra cocoa powder- a lot of chocolate flavoured whey proteins are sweet enough for me, but not chocolatey enough. The  rich bitterness of real cocoa just makes the cake.

I also like to thin out some more whey to make a chocolate sauce for double proteiny decadence.

4. Sweet Potato  Chips

Sweet potato chips

Real food alert! It does exist, I promise.

This is barely a recipe, but just to clarify: these aren’t crispy potato chips (thagn they could be) I just slice up a sweet tato, bung it in the microwave for 5 minutes and cover it in my two greatest condiment loves: nut butter and cinnamon.

So simple, so good.

5. Gluten Free Vegan Cookies

Gluten Free cookies

Finally, a done-for- you cookie that doesn’t contain an ingredient list as long as a novel! Even better, they’re gluten-free and vegan AND come in the post.

l realised that getting cookies delivered to your door is one of life’s greatest pleasures – I encourage you to try it, at least once. Tell ’em Cat sent you.

All this snack chat is  making  me peckish – I’m off!

But I’d love to know any sweet tooth satisfying snacks you’ve been into lately? Leave a comment below!

That first protein bar sounds amazing, even great macros! I’m rather obsessed with protein bars lately, I love to try new ones every now and then. Unfortunately I doubt I’ll find that one you recommend here in Germany. BUT there are enough great options:-)
